A warm, long-standing private family based in Roxburghshire, close to the Scottish border, is looking for an experienced and friendly Domestic Couple to join their household. This is a fantastic long-term opportunity that comes highly recommended by the family’s previous cook, who happily worked with them for 12 years.
The first role is for a Cook and Housekeeping Assistant, responsible for creating high-quality family meals using fresh, seasonal produce, much of it sourced from the family’s own abundant kitchen garden.
Key responsibilities include daily meal planning, shopping, food preparation, and cooking. Maintaining a spotless and well-organised kitchen is essential, along with managing pantry and freezer stocks. Experience in food preservation, such as freezing and pickling, would be a welcome advantage. From time to time, support will be needed with general housekeeping duties, such as turning mattresses, helping with laundry, or moving furniture.
There will be occasions when the family entertains, where a more formal dining approach is required. The cook may also occasionally help with walking the family’s four dogs. Flexibility, teamwork, and strong communication skills are vital, particularly when the family is in residence.
The second role is for a Handyperson, who will oversee the general upkeep of the estate and ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the property. Duties include carrying out minor repairs, painting, and general troubleshooting around the house. The handyperson will also look after garden machinery and equipment, support the kitchen garden and grounds through mowing, weeding, and light gardening, and take on basic vehicle maintenance and occasional driving. Overseeing contractors, assisting with deliveries, and handling errands will also form part of this varied and hands-on role, ideal for someone practical, proactive, and who enjoys outdoor work.
The working schedule is typically five days per week, averaging around 40 hours. The family offers a relaxed and supportive working environment, with lighter duties and shorter hours when they are not in residence.
This is a live-out position, with a private two-bedroom apartment provided on the estate, offering privacy and comfortable, independent accommodation.
