Full-time Private Chef required for a private household in Northumberland, UK. Salary from £60,000 — £70,000 gross per annum, live-out, start ASAP.
A private household is seeking a highly skilled and professional Private Chef to join their team. The role will involve preparing high-quality meals for the principals and their guests throughout the year, while also supporting another resident chef at the family’s secondary residence during busier periods.
The position requires an experienced and flexible chef who is comfortable working within a private household environment, catering for both intimate family meals and larger gatherings, including high-profile guests.
During the winter season, the principals host a number of shooting events and private gatherings. These events typically involve groups of approximately 16–20 guests and usually span two nights and two days. Catering requirements may include formal dinners with canapés and multiple courses, as well as breakfast, elevenses, lunch, afternoon tea, and dinner during the course of the event. On occasion, guests may extend their stay for an additional evening.
The family also hosts several seasonal events throughout the year. These may include afternoon teas for invited guests and community events, as well as festive celebrations which can involve larger numbers of family members and visitors.
Outside of these events, catering requirements are generally lighter. Breakfast is often a simple cold breakfast (such as cereals, fruit, and pastries), lunch is typically cooked, and dinner may be prepared in advance and left ready for the principals in their private living areas.
During the summer months, the chef will also provide support to the chef based at the family’s other private residence. The household may host extended family during this time, including children and accompanying staff, and a number of shooting days and garden events may take place. Some larger events during this period may involve afternoon tea service for a significant number of guests.
Occasionally, the family may travel to other residences during the year, and the chef may be required to accompany them for short stays to provide catering support.
The successful candidate will be capable of producing high-quality, seasonal cuisine suitable for both family dining and formal entertaining. They will be highly organised, with strong skills in menu planning, purchasing, and stock control, and must be comfortable working as part of a close-knit household team.
Flexibility, discretion, and professionalism are essential due to the dynamic nature of the household schedule.
This is a live-out position with an apartment available for a small rent. Utilities and council tax would be paid by the employee and reflected in the salary offered.
The working schedule will be flexible but will total 40 hours per week, with additional flexibility required during events, entertaining, and periods when the principals are in residence.
The salary on offer is £60,000 – £70,000 gross per annum, with some flexibility for the right candidate depending on experience. Candidates are kindly requested to state their salary expectations when applying.
