Full-time English-speaking Cook/Housekeeper Required – Cook/Housekeeping Assistant & Handyperson, located in the Scottish Borders, UK. Salary £40,000 – £70,000 Gross Per Annum, start ASAP
A warm, long-standing private family based in Roxburghshire, close to the Scottish border, is looking for an experienced and friendly Cook/Housekeeper to join their household. This is a fantastic long-term opportunity that comes highly recommended by the family’s previous cook, who happily worked with them for 12 years.
The role includes preparing high-quality family meals using fresh, seasonal produce, much of which is sourced from the estate’s kitchen garden. Duties include menu planning, shopping, food preparation, daily cooking, pantry and freezer organisation, and maintaining a spotless, well-ordered kitchen. Experience with preserving produce (freezing, pickling, etc.) would be advantageous.
Additional housekeeping support will be required, including occasional laundry assistance, mattress turning, and light domestic duties as needed. When the family entertains, a more formal service approach may be required. From time to time, support with dog walking may also be requested.
Alongside these duties, the position includes general handyperson responsibilities to support the estate’s day-to-day running. Tasks will include minor repairs, painting, basic DIY, tool and machinery care, mowing, light gardening, supporting the kitchen garden seasonally, basic vehicle maintenance, occasional driving, assisting with deliveries, and liaising with contractors.
Flexibility, practical ability, and strong communication skills are essential — particularly when the family is in residence.
The schedule is five days per week, totalling approximately 40 hours, with reduced hours and lighter duties when the family is away.
This is a live-out role, with a private two-bedroom apartment provided on the estate for independent use.
